I have a Macbook Pro. When i installed the codecs, the message was installed succesfully, but I want to know why i can't open the .r3d files in final cut studio 3 and neither in quicktime before.
Thanks!

Si alguien sabe español, y me puede poner en español la respuesta mejor.

R3D files can only be opened by applications by red (Ex. red alert, recine, etc..), certain color apps & apps made for red footage such as R3D data manage, clipfinder, etc...

R3D is a raw file format, not a direct video format. If you've ever used P2 it's the same concept. R3D's need to be transcoded to a quicktime format to work with FCP and it's not until a DI process that the R3D's can be used again.

I would also like to add, err correct myself. Adobe Premier can use R3D files natively. I just saw a demo of it at the red user group, I can't believe FCP doesn't have that ability yet.

As Christopher mentioned, you can use the quicktime proxy files. Drop them right into your timeline and begin editing. Once complete, you can send your sequence to Color and under the "Red" tab you will have access to the same features such as iso controls, colorspace, etc, that you have in Red Alert! or Redcine. When I edit on my imac, I find this to be by far the fastest method of working with Red files. Just my 2 cents,

Omar
