Hey RedUsers,

Have read exhaustively on this subject, but not much mention of this that i can find, so I apologise in advance if I've missed this elsewhere.

Looking to get into the RED ecosystem for the first time with a Dragon purchase.

Just in the process of finalising our order and was hoping for some guidance here.

I initially was going to forgo purchasing RED Brick Power pack, as I have a bunch of LightPro V-Lock Batteries already (LP-BP95 14.8V 6.6Ah 95Wh) and was hoping to save some money.

However our Bomb Squad Rep has said that we will void any warranty pertaining to the powering of the camera if we use third party batteries.

So I guess I have two questions. . .

How many of you are using third party batteries and have had issues that have voided your warranty?

&

Is there a real risk to using V-Lock Batteries other than the Bricks supplied by RED?

Navigating the purchase process of a RED for the first time is becoming an all consuming process. :) Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance to anybody who can assist.

First I've ever heard of that.. V mounts from Global Media Pro only for me... If anything ever happens and you need warranty just don't tell them.. ;)

even though i have redbricks, i hardly know anyone using them anymore. there has been some issues here reported with global media pro batteries. otoh i know many using them. Not as a warranty guidance i want to be held accountable for, but a practical observation

Get redbricks, they are more expensive indeed but you will not regret it, built like a tank and last long. And battery level in % is a huge bonus.

I wonder if there is any relation to this post:

I just got a message stating my Red Brick battery was incompatible. I'm getting this message every time I boot the camera up. It's an Epic Dragon running 5.3.29 firmware. The only thing I can think of is I'm using a WC V-Lock battery plate. Anyone else seeing this?

my bricks are dying on me and they only a year old

I have had 6 redbricks since 2008, none of them have failed yet. They are really good. I also use 3 other brands including PAG, dynacore and even RC helicopter Lipos...Dont worry.

Ditto that. 6 RedBricks since 2008. Every one of them works just fine. Big but good.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback guys.

I will get the Red Bricks I think. Better safe than sorry and the consensus is they seem to be pretty solid from most people.

Maybe go Global Media Pro down the line a bit. What particular model Global Media Pro's are being used out there? Any special kind?

Thanks again. :)
