  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For those who use CF...take a look at this..

Delkin has just announced a product called The Image Router. It has four CF slots, UDMA capability (unfortunately it uses USB), and it's self-powered.

Take a look here.

Gah!! Why couldn't they make it Firewire 800? That would have been awesome.

USB (unfortunately) has guaranteed functionality that trumps the other interfaces despite their superiority when it comes to data transfer rates.

Forget the reader, what about the 16GB CF. Good enough for red?

The write speed listed "High data transfer rates - 305X = 45 MB/s*" is adequate assuming that this specification is actually achieved. Where problems can arise is when the manufacturer is either overly optimistic or simply misstates the real world performance. Since the camera offers a drop frame indicator, a bit of testing would certainly confirm its applicability.

I believe RED's testing of the CF cards goes beyond a simple record test. On paper that card should work, but chances are very good that RED has tested it, and if it were good we'd know about it, or it would be available with a 'RED' sticker on it in the store.

I'm not sure the Red crew has testing freshly issued CF cards as a priority -- and it would take time to work out a deal with Delkin -- or whomever is Delkin's supplier. So maybe we can be optimistic. I, for one, will be testing it real world, as I think 16 gig loads will be more than twice as useful as 8 gig loads.

We've tested practically every single 8 and 16GB card out there.
The Delkin 16GB unfortunately did not meet out speed requirements.

If the write speeds are decent and the read speeds are in line with the specs they give, I may get one and use it in my DSLR. Unfortunately, nobody carries Delkin products in my area so I'll have to wait and see otherwise I might spend money on it and be unable to return it without jumping through hoops.
