Feed Epic Onboard Sound from Zoom H6 recorder?

SCENARIO:

While recording interviews, I would love to have the H6 attached to my camera recording LAV mics and shotgun through the H6 with the ability to give the Epic the same sound that is being recorded through the headphone jack?

This gives me two tracks in the H6 recorder. Normal tracks and backup -12DB track plus a thrid audio synced for in camera sound.

Question:

Is it possible to feed my sound recordings from my H6 recorder to the Epic for on board audio directly?

I've tried to plug a couple cables from the H6's headphone output to the Epic but I'm getting feedback at peek levels. Could be a balanced/unbalanced or phantom power on/off?

Hey Will,

Try setting your Epic's audio input to unbalanced, phantom power off, connect 3.5mm line-out of H6 to 3.5mm input of the Epic, set your levels (in Epic) to the minimum (I believe it's 30db or something like that) and most importantly, make sure you have the latest firmware for the H6, which allows you to set the line-out level to -25db. Give that a try.

I've done this quite a bit and the results are actually pretty solid.

Run an 1/8" to 1/8" cable out from your headphone jack on the H6 (not line out), then feed it through a stereo to dual-mono adaptor cable into your Epic: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...KK0k5bxtsACFQhbfgodSAkAKw&Q=&is=REG&A=details

Radioshack also might still a better version of this cable, but I couldn't find it on their site. It was originally built to connect stereo headphones to old airline jets that had dual mono connections.

Btw, the audio feed from the Zoom H6 into the Epic has less than 1 frame delay at 59.94fps, so you're basically good to go for sync sound. This definitely makes syncing dual system sound in post a ton easier.

You can also choose how you route sound through your Zoom H6 and pan one lav exclusively to the left channel and the other to the right channel to maintain separation when you feed the sound to your Epic.

When you say "connected the 3.5mm input of the Epic." You are referring to Mic 1 and Mic 2? I'm using a Y splitter to make them one jack.

Headphones out lets you dial in the exact volume you want. Both are great quality, and now that I know you can feed -25db out of the line out with the new firmware (thanks Ryan), I'll give that a shot too.

It appears that both "Mic Out" and "Line Out" on the H6 recorder give sound when fed to the Epic Mic1/Mic2 channels.
