I'm trying to get my head into the workflow here, and have a few questions... I do read the boards (daily, hourly... by the minute... in fact I hardly do anything else...) but some of this may feel redundant.

In case it is relevant to your answers, I have the current (Feb 08) Mac Pro, Dual Quad's (2.8), 8GB ram, 4TB internal, OSX 10.5.5, and FCS2 with latest update. The file I am using is 2K and a few frames short of 8 seconds long (courtesy of the users at RedRelay).

1. With the new FCS plugin, are Crimson & Monkey Extract as necessary (or preferred) as they previously were? At first glance I would assume not, but, if I want to do a one color in RedCine, would Crimson still be a good choice?

2. When we import "native" now (I've tried this and with success), it creates a new file, correct? It seems that this new file is the same size as the R3D, thus doubling your storage requirements... is this also correct? Not complaining - just wanting to clarify.

3. Once I have the file in FC, I drop it into the timeline. If I haven't conformed my project to the clip, it asks if I want to do so. I say yes. A few thoughts here:
-When viewing the file in the Viewer window, it plays back choppy.
-If I open the scratch file in quicktime, it plays back fine.
-The file immediately shows the red un-rendered indicator above it in the timeline. Is this expected?
-If I render it out, the referenced and now rendered file points to the same quicktime file that it points to before it was rendered.
-If I change my timeline compressor to Redcode and render the file out, in plays back grey in FC. (This might not be something I should do, but I was curious).

4. Are there settings or preferences you recommend operating under in FC, both for RED work and in general? Some of this may be based on the new support, which of course has only been out a short time as of this posting.

While I do understand there are limits in realtime playback, I am hoping to better understand these fundamentals when working with RED footage. My thanks for your time and input!
