RED Team,

Although I bombarded John with Scarlet questions at the booth this year, I didn't think to ask this.

If I'm wanting to replicate the quick manual zooms of lenses with direct control, will Scarlet's lens ring have enough responsiveness? Or, is there a speed setting for the rocker control that would give me a very fast zoom?

Thanks for any info.

I guess you also have direct control with the fixed lense.

By "direct", what I mean is can I replicate the fast zoom of an "analog" lens, with Scarlet's "zoom by wire" control, either at the lens barrel or via other controls?

I've never used the Scarlet ... or its lens.

I can say that no electronic zoom I've ever used lets you do the sort of snap zooms Hong Kong/Bollywood style you can do on a purely mechanical zoom.

The XL series cameras for example always feel damped when zooming "manually"

Now some ENG lenses decouple the motor from the gears, and that lets you get 90% of the full manual action, I recall the HVX200 and EX1 letting you decouple as well ... again not as good as a real manual zoom, but frankly not bad.

One thing that has worried me about Scarlet is that it sounds like the lens is built a lot more like Canon's XL series lens than Fujinon's EX lenses. To be honest that is PURE conjecture.

The I read (and what you can see in pictures) is that Scarlet has a single ring, and it is virtually connected to either focus iris or zoom. Coupled with my experiences above, this is what guides my reasoning/guessing.
