Fan settings? Ideas for maintaining Black Shade temps while recording sync sound

I'm on my first job (as AC) with my brand new Dragon Epic. After the very first production day with this new beast my overall impressions are very positive. The extra range in this sensor is truly awesome. The new minimags ROCK!

I can't wait to shoot some personal stuff and really dig into the files.

With all that being said, I had a lot of trouble with the fan settings. My MX Epic seemed to have a better fan system. I could set it to 35% during record times and it would keep the black shade temp nicely, all the while keeping our sound department happy. But today I just couldn't accomplished this task with my Dragon.

I started out in adaptive mode, which worked great for part of the day. However I did noticed that the fan did not go down during recording. Is this right?

However, as the day went on the fan would sometimes kick up, even during recording. Also it seemed to have a harder time keeping the Black Shade temp in line. I tried other fan settings which seemed to be even worse in terms of maintaining a consistent temp.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Adaptive is the way to go. If the ambient temperature rises, so will the speed of the fan to counteract the increase in temperature. If you are working in short takes, Adaptive and quiet record is the way to go.

I hadn't noticed the other thread about Quiet Record mode having a bug in it. Perhaps the answer is to choose Quiet Record mode after the bug is fixed in the next firmware update?
