  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi gang,

Does anyone have a work around for the GPU's overheating on a Mac Pro Trashcan
when exporting from Redcine-x???

In Resolve I can "throttle" the export to 2fps and keep GPU temps down,
anything like this in RCx??

I tried turning simultaneous frame processing in the preferences down but
it doesn't help.

Do I need to turn OpenGL GPU acceleration off?

Anyone??

Im kinda stuck and need to get something out

Just get more air-flow Curtis (extra fan on top, blower at the bottom, vacuum cleaner, etc...) or feed it colder air(airco, put it in the freezer, etc...) or both...

My usual thermal Trashcan Mac advice:

1) install Macs Fan Control (a free utility), which will keep you advised on internal temperature.
https://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control

2) shut the machine off for about half an hour and let it cool down. Reboot and the displayed temperature should be about 90°F.

3) ramp up the Macs Fan Control fans to 1800RPM (close to maximum).

4) run no apps in the background and do not do any other operations while the renders are running.

For this and other reasons, Resolve may be a better choice for rendering dailies and work copies.

Been chunking through the renders with no issue, . not very fast but It's doing fine.

Machine GPU temp is stable at 144F with an extra fan under the machine blowing up
through it along with Macs fan running at 1900 rpm.

Marc you gave me your mac cooling advice over a year ago If I remember
and it's gotten me through the last year of running 8k R3D.

Curtis
