  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

experience with live grading?

reviving an old thread, yet again :)
However, when i export this graded image as a LUT and apply to the Arri RAW it does not match; much less contrast and a different color cast as well. Is this simply because the output from the Alexa is just a compressed signal, and could never match the raw? If so, why is it advertised as such a workflow? If not, what am I doing wrong?

Maybe it's because your Live grading input signal is not uncompressed Raw, but rather 8 bit 422 YCbCr.

Also, I think that you're supposed to save the grade as a still, then apply the correction... but not as a LUT.

_If_ I were to Livegrade epic I would use Livegrade, with the camera in RedLogfilm output mode, the use the LUT's (transforms) in Davinci Resolve applied over the RedLogfilm base.

This is totally the right way but unfortunately, completely impractical. Making the operator and assistant look at RLF is going to get you in the shit in no time. My biggest gripe with the RED. One SDI out and it shares a gamma space with the LCD and EVF. This kills any chance of effectively using live grade tools.

ALEXA? No problem.

What do you all think of this reported "major problem" with the HDlink Pro?

Apparently its LUT application is inaccurate and BMD has known it for almost a year.

Very true. Generally, they work fine for creative grades. I usually tweak the look with the DP throughout the scene so its all just an approximation. I don't like to use it in a final grading environment for output LUT application. For that Resolve has output LUT.
