Gentlemen,

I spent a few hours yesterday testing the new Mitsubishi line of DLP rear projection TV's that are 3D ready and, I must say, I'm very impressed.

Now, I know that plasma, LCD and recently LED are all the rage, but for the life of me, I still prefer the image of a good DLP over all of those. The native contrast, brightness and deep, natural colors of DLP are still unsurpassed by any of those technologies, and to me at least, the blacks of DLP are better than plasma. Better yet, DLP's pixel "refresh" rate is far, far, far quicker than all of the above. DLP however lacks in sharpness and the capacity to tweak and finesse color as needed, and yes, exhibits color wheel artifacts here and there, not to mention its bigger size, but to me, once again, those concerns are not only less important but truthfully barely noticeable most of the time. But whatever shortcomings DLP may have as compared to the flashier technologies, its 3D usefulness is miles ahead. Yesterday we did a test of between the Sony and Samsung LED's, the Panasonic plasma and the Mitsu DLP's.

The DLP's 3D was, by far, the most natural, pleasing and ghost/crosstalk free image of all. By a LOT. I thought the Pany plasma's 3D was pretty good until I compared it to the DLP, and the LED's fared even worse. The DLP also offers all 3D formats and the interesting choice of not even needing an emitter for the active glasses, since the DLP chip itself emits a sync signal for "DLP link" glasses. I tested all types of glasses currently available and found the X-Pand glasses to work outstandingly well with the DLP. They are also cheaper than any other brand. The best part of it is price. The 60" monitor, WD-60738, is selling for around $950! The 73", which I bought, is around $1400, and the 83", which I intend to use for our client monitoring in our studio is $2500. compare the 60" to the Pany 50" at $2300, and do the math. If you're looking for a 3D monitor that has very decent color, the best looking 3D and screen sizes that can't be beaten at ridiculously low prices, then you owe it to yourself to check these TV's before you take the plunge on a plasma or LED. You can always do your color correction on a real monitor, but these things are an amazing product. I was going to buy a Sony SXRD projector for my studio at $10K, now the 83" Tv will save me around $7.5K and give me better 3D.

Thanks for the pointer. Always liked DLP as well.
