So now that the REDRAY players are shipping it appears that it comes with the RRencoder software. I'd love to hear what kind of performance people are getting when converting 4K footage to .RED files. Is the RREncoder GPU accelerated? Does having a Rocket card help? Share the love :-)

The RED Rocket card is always a big difference, and I most certainly see the new RR card become a huge benefit in this as well.

But I'll refrain form talking too much about this stuff as it is not my Bread n' Butter... I just play with it to get stuff done while I wait for the the Pros to get it done for me... ;)

The Red Rocket has nothing to do with encoding for Red Ray and will not aid it in any way other than to get your R3D files transcoded more quickly prior to a .RED encode. R3D files and .RED files are two completely different things for two completely different purposes.

On an old and decidedly average macpro 5,1 I see 15x to 20x realtime to encode from DPX to .RED - main edit suite has been tied up so I've only been testing on our archival machine.

If you're not used to a DPX workflow there's that to take into account too I guess.
