Wondering if anyone has tried this Elgato Turbo H.264 USB stick with RedCineX? I wonder if this USB sized stick for $50 would actually make a difference for H.264 renders.

From the site - "Boost the speed of even the fastest Mac - The speed of your Mac determines how long it will take to convert video. Turbo.264 HD connects via USB to act as a "co-processor" and accelerates video conversion two to four times, even on the fastest Mac."

You would have to spit out a proxy file from whatever program you were using that would be compatible with their encoding software and then re-encode those proxies. After it's all said and done it may not be as fast.

Depending on how much footage you're going through, a real time h.264 encoder could be faster if you could put all the footage into a NLE timeline, and use a dedicated hardware box that makes h.264 proxies if you don't need to be completely frame accurate for some offline editorial.

I understand that x264 -veryfast preset is higher quality than these hardware boxes and are similar in encoding times.
