Hi, everybody, I have a RAID setup question as I’ve been fortunate to luck into a couple of Proavio EB800MS RAID enclosures for a killer price and I want to know what my options might be. To start, we currently use one for editing with an Areca 1883x and love it so that’s why I jumped on these enclosures when I saw them, one filled with drives and one empty. I’m going to use another Areca 1883x for immediate use with the filled enclosure but I wondered if there was a way to link both enclosures for one big RAID array? I haven’t found much searching online so I don’t know if anybody has done it or is currently using a similar setup on here.

Both enclosures are Mini-SAS-based with two connectors going into the Areca so I would have to get another card for the second enclosure (unless they can be daisy chained?). Would the two Areca cards work together to connect both RAIDs together or is it a matter of doing two RAIDs and connecting them by software RAID? If the latter, what software RAID solution would be best and, more importantly, if I’m aiming for RAID 1+0 security, how should I RAID both enclosures for a final RAID 1+0 solution? ([1+0/1+0/1+0] or [0+0+1+0] or RAID5/10/something?) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

This card might be a solution for your needs, it has four external mini SAS HD (SFF-8644) and two internal mini SAS HD (SFF-8643)

We use the same setup. Great controller and enclosure. There is no way to daisy chain multiples though. Each sas port connects to 4 drives.
