Well, I'm buying one, question is will it go on this years taxes or next. What is the community consensus on whether Red will take new Dragon X (not M) order THIS YEAR?

Also, if I put money in my red account before the end of the year, but it's not used until after Jan 1st, I assume I can't write it off of 2013's taxes correct?

i am in the same boat...i did the scarlet-epic upgrade and am now in line for the dragon upgrade...not sure it will happen before christmas anyway....
about your tax question...i believe since you are making a payment to red (to put the funds into the account) it should count as a payment....but i guess since you are not getting a receipt other then a confirmation, you can't write that payment off...since that would require a specific invoice/bill dated either 2013 or 14...i am not an accountant of course...
i might actually push the upgrade back to 2014 (should it happen this year) but when i get the notice, i probably won't be able to control myself:)...
i am assuming we will know more beginning december....

I believe you cannot depreciate or expense any item until it is actually placed into service.

No, I am not an accountant.

This is correct, the equipment must be placed into service first.
