Assuming they are about the same price now (used) which one do you recommend? I really like the idea of a larger size monitor like the DP1x for pulling focus but maybe it's not worth it? Is there a problem with it that made them discontinue it?

I have both. The DP1X is 9" and 720p, the DP6 is 5.6" and the same resolution (actually slightly higher.) Thus, the DP6 has a higher pixel density, and is much much sharper. It's also brighter, and the menus are easier to navigate. Personally, I MUCH prefer the DP6. It also has SDI (get the DP6-SDI, it's so worth it.)

You really can't go wrong with the DP6. It's a bulletproof monitor, it's lightweight, and fantastic for focusing. The guys (and girls) at SmallHD are awesome, I know them personally and I can't say enough about their awesome service and dedication to quality and customer satisfaction.

Enjoy!

Awright I think I'm sold :)

Another vote of confidence for the DP6-SDI here. My brother and I love ours. It's definitely very useful for getting proper focus and exposure.

Also has SDI loop-through built in, I frequently run two DP6s simultaneously.

For us DP1x is a monitor dream come true, for the way we work, which is almost never tripod, always Steadicam, dolly or jib. We use HD video transmission and remote follow focus, and the AC controls focus using the DP1. It's just the right size, it just works, and with 3 batteries, we pretty much get through the shoot if we're careful. But it all depends on how you work. For run and gun the Dp6 small size would be a plus.

+1 on their excellent service!

BTW, I think they offer a few B samples for a good price again right now. We bought one (have three now) and we couldn't even spot a defect.

Yeah I picked up a B stock DP6 and I absolutely cannot tell why it was b stock - looked brand new and the display is perfect. Love it!
