I am trying to crop a 2:1 File to 16:9. In the project window I chose the display 16:9, I see the yellow guidelines where the frame should be, then depress the crop button. When I get the out put file it's 16:9, but it's just the original image squished.

What am I doing wrong?

jim - from doing a quick test my end.....if you set your project settings to your desired output the go to the shot menu in REDCINE and the in the shot framing section section, there is a drop down menu that will allow various adjustments. try the "fit width" option and that should give you what you want.

hope this helps

hey there,
please take this with a grain of salt as i am a new user trying to get what need out of redcine for the first time but i have been messing with all the settings and this is what i have found so far (please correct me if i am mistaken)

in the project "format settings" choose your desired output ie: 4k 16:9
you'll see now crop bars top and bottom as the 4k 2:1 is a little wider format
then you have to go into the "shot" settings
here in "shot framing" is where you set up your output size... in the case of the 4k 16:9 i would choose fit height and you see it will crop the sides of the image ( you should also note in this mode you are actually scaling the image up a bit)
if you are looking to go into a "HD" format you could go back into project and select HD 1080 (you'll notice the image gets much smaller )
you then go back into "shot framing" and this time scale down the image to fit height ( approx. 53% )
hope this helps rather than hinder
cheers
