Corrupt Data on REDMAG - Happened to anyone else?

Recently I did a shoot where I was following a politician for the day, starting off with a short fight in a small plane. After the flight we had a chance to regroup and I went to dump the data from my 64GB Redmag onto my hard drive.

The Redmag went into my USB 3.0 reader and I opened it up, but when I clicked on the RDM folder, Windows gave the error message "The file or directory is corrupt and non-readable."

I didn't touch that Redmag for rest of the day and tried to access it again on my desktop in the evening. Different reader, this time the eSATA version, but same error. I copied all the data from my other Redmag without any troubles.

I did some digging around the forums and found RedUndead, ran it on my friend's Mac and was able to successfully retrieve all the data - thanks Red!

So I'm posting this partly to let you guys know about the problem and how I got out of it, but also to try to work out what went wrong. I've read about corrupt frames on the Scarlet forums before, but has anyone else had a whole RDM folder become corrupt? Could this have been caused by something I did?

Like any drive, it can be corrupted by dodgy cables, a dodgy reader, dirty contacts, the camera losing power or the drive being pulled while writing (or sometimes reading), using only copy/paste or drag & drop (no way to know if there was a computer glitch in copying - should use a checksum copy manager).

In your case you can probably eliminate the reader and cables or the SSD itself as you were able to use other Redmags OK, and retrieve your files of the SSD with Red Undead.

Another possible issue is if you shoot an SSD drive out 100%, if the card is completely full, it may become corrupted. Always stop recording around 90-95% if you have the option.
