My colorist colored in apple color in 2K resolution. The color looks great but it is very noisy now, much noisier than the rough cut. Is this because we added grain? What can be done to minimize noise?

yes we added some brightness and a film look that itensified grain.

adding brightness and grain only make grain more bright and noticeable. If your going to add grain stay away from brightness. Were the shots underexposed and your trying to compensate?

Keep in mind that Color doesn't use the new color science of build 20. It will be noisier than if you transcode from Red Alert.

Also, pushing the grade will introduce noise every time.

You could try the Neat Video Pro plug-in. http://neatvideo.com/

Only $99 and does a pretty damn good job!

yeah we did add some grain via the "film look"option. and had to bump up the brightness here and there as some footage was underexposed.
