Cold In July

Just saw Cold In July and it was an excellent job all around especially by Jim Mickle and Ryan Samul. The story was great, acting was great, but one of my favorite parts was Ryan's cinematography. It was so good I had a hard time telling what camera it was and I feel like it's some of the best RED footage I've seen. In fact, some of the best footage from any camera that I've seen in a while. My question is, did they have a Dragon or two to shoot this movie this past August? The dynamic range, color and skin tones were awesome.

I watched the film at Sundance today, excellent work on every front. I believe Linda Moran said it was a epic a bit ago on filmmaker.

I met Jim and Ryan last year after viewing of We Are What We Are. They're very talented and I expect Cold in July to be pretty sweet. The images from We Are What We Are were really nice. Light Iron also did the on-set and post production on Cold in July.

No Dragon in this film - EPIC MX. Ryan Samul is a monster talent IMO - just watch STAKELAND on Netflix - which had a budget under $500K and Ryan shot on RED ONE M. I have not seen the finished vesrion of Cold In July yet - but I hear LightIron NY kicked some serious ass in the DI.

Wow awesome job Ryan. Thanks for answering my question. I ran into Ted after the screening and he confirmed it was RED. But like I said your work was so good that I had a hard time figuring out what camera it was and I defiantly forgot about the tech stuff a few minutes in. Now that's a good film! I especially loved the lighting gag where everything turned Red. (I don't wanna give it away so hopefully you know what I mean. Lol). Blew my mind! Thanks and keep up the good work!
