Hello,

Wondering if anyone knows of the best adapter path to getting a cmount lens onto a scarlet, cheers

Here's one on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/280867724903?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I have no idea which lenses will still be focusable when in it, or have iris rings reachable...
I also bet some will not have infinity focus
and others will not have enough space behind the mount to clear the olpf.
This is a bad idea for zoom lenses, as their unsupported weight will deform the mount
Lastly, a lot of C-mount 16 lenses do not cover 2k
However, its only $99 plus shipping..

Hi C,

Yah I have that pc already, was wondering if there was an adapter to go from c mount to an ef mount scarlet, sorry I wasn't clear in my first post :)

Compared to the original RED One, the setback of the sensor within the casework seems deeper. The eBay mounts linked are simply designed and have a deep shoulder. With a custom fourscrew EPIC/SCARLETT mount with a stepped shoulder, you might get away with using the small diameter bodied turret lenses for the old Bolexes like the little winecap sized Schneider-Kreuznachs. I checked a set on the SI2K and their performance was very, very ordinary on the sharpness numbers.

Assuming there was a way to mount them at correct flange distance from the sesnor, accessing the lens controls within the necessarily deep tunnel would be another matter. The c-mount lens flange face is 17.5mm from focal plane. The PL is 52mm, the Canon 44mm or so. As you can observe from the eBay images, the setback for the c-mount in both the PL and Canon adaptors does not appear deep enough. There are very few c-mount lenses which throw a 25mm diameter image circle so it would be 2K only, even then with a chance of a vignette or portholing from the wider lenses.

Unless you specifically want a distressed look you cannot replicate in post, you are better off dealing with the ARRI standard, ARRI B, PL-Mount generations of 16mm/Super16mm prime lenses.

At 37mm or so flange to focal plane, old CP-mount/Aaton-mount 16mm/Super16mm lenses might also be impossible to mount to the deepset EPIC/SCARLETT except by purpose built fourscrew mounts. Fortunately, many of these lenses were designed for a range of cameras with cutom rear sub-assemblies or adaptors for individual camera types. It is not cheap. No custom one-off work is but many of these lenses can be remounted by a proper lens techs. Ken Hale of Whitehouse AV has PL-Mounts for the CP Ultra T* family of 16mm lenses and the Angenieux 17.5-70mm compact zoom. I imagine Visual Products can provide a similar service.

If it was worth doing, Mr Optitek would surely have done C-mount adaptors for PL and Canon, or four screw special mounts already and properly.
