  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cloverfield

I read an article on the making of Cloverfield

The camera you see in the production photo is the HDC-SD5 and the majority of the movie WAS shot with the HVX200. The special effects shots and city panoramas were shot with Viper and F23.
 
Didn't this film make your head "spin"??? I was with my 15 years old nephews and they were OK, but they play 4 hours a day on the Playstation!!! :usd:

They have been brave to release the film like this. Now I am sorry to think all the similar films that will go out.

While watching the film I thought about the people who had to work on it, can you imagine editing or QC it??? :bye2: :bye2:
 
the film itself does make you dizzy but knowing the HVX looks that good on the big screen makes you want the scarlet to be something totally better than everyone out there as its features should be unique and powerful. Why do we want the scarlet if we have so many choices out there. Again, she "scarlet" should be the digital filmmaker's powerhouse.

"The strategically designed frenetic pace of the photography
seen in the new Matt Reeves-directed monster movie Cloverfield relied heavily on
a mixture of high-definition cameras and lower-end prosumer digital systems, as well.
They were used by cinematographer Michael Bonvillain in various combinations to create
the illusion that the entire movie was "filmed" by a young man with a video camera basically
fleeing for his life from a gigantic creature as it wreaks havoc on New York City.
Among the tools used by Bonvillain during the production was the new Sony F23
digital camera system—one of its first applications on a major feature film—which
Bonvillain used largely to capture visual effects plates in combination with other HD cameras.
Bonvillain recently spoke with millimeter senior editor Michael Goldman about his approach to
using the F23 and other cameras on the project."

thanks for that interview. It clears things up pretty well. The HVX held up beautifully on the big screen, and its only DVCPRO HD, now imagine the RAW images from the scarlet at 2k or 1080p. Revolution is here. All of us owe it to Jim and the Red team.

i googled for you but couldnt find anything. But what i will guess is that they probably used 108p 24 for the resolution. There was no offspeed effects i noticed, so i dont think they used 720p. It makes sense to use 1080p for the filmout, but iam only guessing.
