Several screens at my favorite local cinema have either the projector or the video server set up wrong. At a recent viewing of Furious 7 (shot on Red Epic BTW) I could barely sit through it as the picture was near nausea inducing, for me at least. They have some setting switched on similar to "your-local-best-buy-demo-mode" that does way too much sharpening, a weird brightness averaging across the frame, and a slight frame interpolation for that "almost soap opera" effect. They are using Sony SRX-4k projectors and I don't know what CineServers on the back end. I'm hoping one of you has seen this "vomit mode" before, and knows what it is, so I can go tell them to specifically turn it off. Thanks!

The weird brightness averaging could be due to the use of silver screens for 3D presentations, which give you a hot spot with fall-off.
It definitely wasn't the screen, it was some post processing option that shouldn't be allowed to exist. I tried to make a simulation with photoshop so you guys could see what i was talking about, but couldn't get it right. If you've ever seen that horrid degrained bluray version of "predator", that is a whole lot like what it looked like.
