  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cineform, DNxHD or Lagarith?

Lagarith is lossless, so given the same color depth it will have unquestionably superior image quality, however, it is next to uselss in practical terms because of a lack of widespread support. The other two depend purely on what you want to do with them.

Lagarith is far, far superior to Cineform or DNxHD. It is a mathematically lossless codec, while the likes of Cineform are lossy. However, Cineform or DNxHD offer much better performance. Unless you have a quad core CPU, you aren't going to get real-time performance. UT Codec seems like a good compromise - lossless AND fast, though the compression is not as great as Lagarith. (Still, ~3:1 or so is pretty useful)

Pretty much any Windows based NLE supports Lagarith (It's a VFW codec). There's no support whatsoever with Mac, though.
