Hi,
Look this week at Cinec 2.7 release, will allow you to encode to H265 hevc on windows computers.

Next week (tuesday i think) will be released Cinec 2.7, with HEVC. Among other features the most significantly is support for H.265
You'll be able to encode videos to HEVC, easily, and, converting videos to RAW format (new on 2.5) first, you'll be able to convert videos from one compressed codec to another: like dnxhd to prores, prores to dnxhd, prores to hevc h265, etc ..

It also includes a player (decoder), so users will be able to encode and decode videos to h265 hevc.

For RED, it supports sources such as uncompressed, RAW and RAW Stills, and now you can also convert TO and FROM prores & dnxhd sources.

H265 conversion requires some cpu power but on our cinec tests even a modest computer can do the conversion with. Stringly recommended Pro or Gold versions due to multi cpu core support.

Is Cinec basically a GUI / front-end for a variety of freeware programs... or am I confusing it with something else?

Hey Petri,
I can say that, related to libraries, Cinec, has been developed with some third party and some custom ones. More info on this contact support att]] cinemartin.com

Can this tool be use to increase the dynamic range of a codec, Ex: hdslr to something better for color work.

Not really...your stuck with the dynamic range you shot

When converting 8 bit into a 10 bit or higher codec you will get banding....not interpolation into the increased dynamic ranger of the codec.

255 levels of gray will still be 255 levels of gray in 1024 level space....just mapped to different numbers with gaps inbetween

The codec itself will hold more dynamic range for your adjustments...but usually all the math is done in internal color space of the grading app anyway....ie once the codec is read it is in system memory it's 8 bit value will be translated into the apps color space which can be 10, 16,32 bit ect depending on the application

The main reason to get it out of hdslr h.264 is to get away from intra frame compression, and to run it into a codec that can handle multiple generations

That being said I would definitely convert h.264 to something else for post work....just don't expect miracles

Quick question. Does selling this product for e199 or e499 not completely violate the GNU licence for the open source code it is based on?

Hi Ben, Cinec is not based on open source, it uses LGPL library from some part.
But even that ..
Just today my colleague Marc were talking about to some one

I copy and paste:
"Anyone can use and distribute LGPL libraries within the app with the stipulation that you have to mention the GPL and LGPL and the library in notice
"Section 5 and 6 of LGPL v2.x For unchanged LGPL libraries, you do not have to mention it in your About dialog"

Cinemartin Cinec does several features some involve LGPL some others not (custom libraries).

Look at the results (not at the internals).

Ahh okay, it was my understanding that it was a GUI/front end for FFMBC and under the GPL contract...

2. You may modify your copy or copies of the Program or any portion of it, thus forming a work based on the Program, and copy and distribute such modifications or work under the terms of Section 1 above, provided that you also meet all of these conditions:

a) You must cause the modified files to carry prominent notices stating that you changed the files and the date of any change.
b) You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in part contains or is derived from the Program or any part thereof, to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License.

EDIT: Just to add, I'm not trying to be difficult. Just curious is all. I still have v1.8 on my machine and use it when Pro Res is required :)

Thanks Mike for the explanation.

Will we be able to export pro res from windows PC Premiere pro cs6 timeline using this software?

Hi Dave,
Confirmation, you will be able to export prores from adobe premiere pro Cs 5.5 and cs6 from next version of Cinemartin Cinec. There will be a plugin for (currently on development).
At this moment, a new release has been updated.

Cinec 3.0 now available for purchase.

A raw stills was tuned, interesting for convergent design odissey users and other people that gets raw still files from camera.
More info at: cinemartin.com/cinec/cinema-dng Supports not only cinema-dng, other files like tiff, jpg, dpx, ..
