Cheapest way to reach 500MB/s

Anyone have any recommendations?

It doesn't even need to be 1TB.. just enough for one project at a time.
I'm thinking some kind of internal SSD raid?

Striping 4 High-end 7200rpm SATA drives should go it. I have 4 15k rpm SAS drives that give me 600MB/s. The new SATA drives have over 100MB/s. RAID0 can be done with a cheap controller, I am using the integrated one on my HP workstation. You could try using WD Velociraptors to get even better performance without having to pay for a SAS controller. Total price should be less than $1000 for any of those configs.
