Hi,
We are planning to buy a new system with focus on Red r3d handling. Our facility is fully PC equipped but maybe switching to Mac could be reasonable for this purpose since there are more software options and workflows on Mac OS… but still not sure (i.e. we would have to purchase new licenses for software additionally).
Mostly we do production for HD with final output to HD Cam 1080/50.

Our typical workflows look like this:
previewing dailies instantly at full framerate, do some light grading on it, Pan or zoom the image area, do some rough editing on Premiere, doing a lot of compositing within After FX natively, transcode to Tiff-Sequence or Avid MXF or QT... finishing will be on DS Nitris in most cases...

Because it’s hard to find much information about RedRocket especially in PC environment I’d like to ask for some basic information on that:
What software beside RedcineX and Scratch will be accelerated by the RR? (PC, Mac)
Which possibilities are there to do realtime playouts via SDI? HD/SD? Embedded Audio? VITC? Will there be an option for deck-remote or is it only crash-record?
Can RR coexist with Blackmagic Decklink?
More options on Mac with Rocketcine?
What acceleration on export is to be expected?
Does it make sense to get the RR right now?
Or is CPU Power and RAM worth much more for these demands?
Will an 8-core Xeon Nehalem machine (PC or MAC) with 16 (or more) GB Ram handle all that stuff smoothly? What are your experiences with playback and transcoding times on such a machine?

I hope you can advice a little and help to clarify my questions…

cheers
