I just updated my firmware to the current release build. Two questions. I have a shoot that I will need to shoot standard 4KHD 24P 180o Do I need to black shade even though I just updated firmware or is it only required when changing to other frame rates?

Also, if I enter varispeed and shoot 60fps at 2KHD do I need to re-black shade for that even though my timebase is 24P?

Hey Michael, you should always black shade after a firmware update. In my experience, black shading for a few shots at higher frame rates/lower resolutions isn't totally necessary, it's really necessary, however, if you are going below 24fps and slow shutter speeds (like shooting at night.)

Great thanks guys. Really appreciate the help. We plan on shooting a music video at 2.5x the speed in 60fps at a 24P timebase to give us the slow motion/sync effect. Thats only for a few of the sections. The rest is real time. Just wanted to make sure those sections are looking as nice as the others. Thanks again.

I love that RED actually has a community that is connected. Really speaks a lot.
