Hi All,

I am in the market for an Epic-X and wondering how people are purchasing them here? I am not comfortable wiring $30,000 to a total stranger!

Are people using escrow service? how does Red ownership transfer service actually work, the camera needs to be sent back correct? Has anyone gone through this process?

Hypothetically, if the camera needs to be sent back to red anyways, can I instead pay a deposit to the seller and then pay for shipping to red + ownership transfer fees and once it has been evaluated & ownership transfered then send the rest of payment to seller? Sort of use red as an escrow ;-)

My current wise option is to fly to where the camera is with a cashier's check and inspect the camera and then fly back with it.

your inputs would be helpful.

ownership transfer gobbles your warranty from 1 yr to 90 days...I suggest you buy near where you live and create a partnership of sorts with the seller for the time of your warranty
and then opt for exteneded red armour so you get all the warranty time you can afford. If you live in LA buy in LA. the only thing is the seller will need to either send you build updates or share
his/her password with you. Just saying, I love almost everything about RED but warranty and as for its tranferability says alot about what a company feels about its products. And i know how proud red is and yet doesnt address this...i buy a mac and applecare follows, and thats as it should be...

Thanks Sergio!

My understanding is the armor must be purchased at the same time you order the camera! Can you opt to add it later when the 1year expires? I agree on the warranty, other company's warranty is for the equipment not the owner! although some car manufactures's extended warranty are non-transferable but at least they give the new owner the OPTION to buy that warranty again upon inspection and certify used stamp.

So then what is the point for the ownership transfer if the warranty doesn't go with it? is the fee just for the privilege to upgrade build?

I wish that were the case. You have to order Red Armour right after allocation.

Hey Sergio, don't you have an EPIC X for sale? And aren't you in LA? Well there you go Jean...you can inspect and buy from Sergio without risk.

I'm in this process right now. It really sucks to lose the one year warranty to a brand new camera, also your not eligible to pay for the additional insurance that's not an option. They re-assess the brand new camera and they ship it to the new owner with only 90 days warranty as if it has been refurbished...

It's a good system if your buying a used camera with hours on it but when I'm buying a new Epic with 0 hours on it that doesn't make sense at all. Also, all accessories associated with a package also lose ALL warranty...

For the money transfer and transfer of ownership this is my routine.. The current owner sends it back red for inspection. Once cleared by Red they notify me everything is ok and I wire money to the seller. Then the seller confirms payment and gives Red the go ahead to ship the camera.

It's kind of a tough call, it's not ideal but that's the way I'm going..

I'm currently selling a brand new, unopened EPIC-X package in the US, and I have to agree with Jan on the method of payment, that seems safest to me for both parties. The buyer gets assured (by RED) that the camera is as advertised, and can pay in full with confidence when that is assured. I agree it does not seem right that the warranty period does not transfer with the camera, or the accessories, especially on brand new cameras.

Please email me (not pm) at pdmogg (at) gmail (dot) com if interested in making an offer.

Regards,

Paul
