Do you have to record into a REDMAG simultaneously with the Atomos Ninja? Or do you even need a REDMAG connected at all?

You have both options. You just have to go into the settings and check off the option to record to external device only, or do nothing and record to both at the same time.

Anyone got a Ninja 1 working on 1080P? mine only works in 720P ..
