If anyone with a Dragon and an MX is reading this, would you mind posting an apples to apples comparison between the two sensors? I'd like to see 2k vs 2k, 3k vs 3k and 4k vs 4k in various conditions (I'm most curious about low light performance)
Thank you

I did some back to backs.... And can't post them only because I'm away OS shooting for a few weeks...
but believe me... its drastically better.... A good two to 3 stops better... Cleaner.
All i can do is post this for you.

Anyone using the DRAGON camera at the moment is under NDA - .... Jarred will release 6K .r3ds as soon as they've got everything lined up ... patience my friend is a virtue, especially 6K patience ;-)

Suffice it to say that the low light performance of the DRAGON is simply quite stunning ... this isn't just a bigger sensor, this is a better sensor - way better!

On Ketch's 'The Red Dress' project we're editing and grading now, he shot a wide range of shots from bright sunlit exteriors to dark shadowy interiors ... from brightly lit fashion models to night exteriors lit by street lighting alone ... the lack of noise in the blacks and shadows is stunning ... the roll off in the highlights gorgeous ... skin tones are smooth, detailed and naturalistic.

Ketch is a great RED DP and has owned all the various flavors of Reds ... he really put the DRAGON through its paces ... we were the first to grade Red footage way back in 2006 and have worked on all the different Red sensors since then .... both Ketch and I agree that this DRAGON sensor is in a different league to anything else out there on the market at the moment ... DRAGON really is something special.

As soon as Jarred gives the go ahead we'll publish some of the 'The Red Dress' footage.

In the meantime, Ketch and I are going to release a very in-depth BTS mini documentary on the shooting and posting of the 'The Red Dress' that explores both the technical and creative aspects of using the DRAGON camera ... Ketch is a passionate and skilled filmmaker and the BTS documentary will reveal just how powerful a tool the DRAGON camera is in the hands of creative genius.

The Tao of the Dragon is a path of creative enlightenment and unsurpassed beauty ... be prepared to make the journey into the future.

Neil,

first thank you for the kind words... Then again big THANKS for the collaboration both you and Sam have put and continue to put in to "The RED dress" project at Hollywood DI & Luma Forge aka "THE LAB"!!

Working with Dragon has been my most absolute best experience ever in a Motion Picture Camera... PERIOD!!

I'll be giving my impressions when the new Thread with Frame grabs and links goes up no later then next week, however every one here by now knows that I do not do tests, my tests are actually shooting with the gear for a project as it would be in the real world, and I never do comparisons with any gear next to each other, I will however make informed opinions known about one and the other when possible and allowed by time.

MX is a fantastic sensor... DRAGON is in a completely NEW category in it self... Enough said... For now... ;)
