I'm trying to resist the urge to take these systems for granted as they are becoming even more powerful
and Apple has kept their prices pretty steady.

I think the M series (including the 1st gen) has bought computing to the point where one no longer thinks much about the tech because it provides so much power for even the highest end work.

I'm still working on 2 x M1 Max systems and they still give me the performance
and convenience needed to continue getting work done (editing, transcodes, color grading, delivery) in
a way that still continues to impress me.

If anything, the software (particularly from 3rd parties) is becoming the biggest bottleneck as a lot of software has not been fully re-written to take advantage of what the Apple Silicon chips offer.

I do look forward to seeing the many benchmark tests that will likely follow in the coming weeks.

So in a nutshell when looking at M4Max vs M3Max

+20% CPU
TB5 vs TB4
Nano-tex screen option

Yeah, There seems to not be much more to improve upon since the M1 was already pretty powerful already. I think as more software become more optimized for the apple silicon chips that we will finally be able to appreciate just how powerful they actually are.

I was hoping that they would surprise us with OLED screens but I guess that will be probably like some have predicted maybe in 2025 or 2026.

After seeing some of the benchmarks this is actually a pretty meaningful upgrade.
It seems to be the biggest speed jump from one gen to the next.

An M4 Max seems considerably faster than an M2 Ultra.

For me, on a M1 Max, the speed differences compared to an M4 Max are close to double.

My current systems still work fine but if the need arises it's nice to know these
systems exist with the power they have.
