  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any digital asset management systems offer .r3d preview?

Looking to add a decent, hopefully low-cost, digital asset management system to our company. There are a couple of great open source systems out there, but open source or not, I can't seem to find any that yet offer the ability to preview .r3d files.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of any that do...? Also, any recommendations on asset management systems for a production company, with mostly picture and video files?

I even researched using Lightroom across multiple computers, but it seems that no matter how you do it (even the Dropbox route), you run the risk of catalog corruption. Which makes sense since Lightroom wasn't exactly built to do this sort of thing! (at least not for more than one local installation)

Thanks!

I'd like to bump this up. I'm looking at CatDV and they say they can read the quicktime wrapper files but I can't seem to get that to work even going by their 1 FAQ note on R3D files (which seems geared towards RED One).

There is the Generate Quicktime Wrappers option in RedCine-X Pro. Would that give you what you need? Granted, you'd have to do it for all your Red media. Which isn't the same as being able to read the Red natively.

Lightroom 4+ can natively handle R3D media and all kinds of still images. The only glaring omission is lack of PNG support.
