Announcing Weapon Touch 7in LCD plus LEMO ADAPTORS for Weapon

Noting the new AL option alongside the fiber version of the 7.0".. the description in the RED store refers the AL as 'robust' and the woven CF as 'ultra light weight' yet in the specs sheet it simply lists one weight (508g). Can we get some clarity on whether there is any weight benefit from going for the WF? Because apart from a bit of WF decal for a nice blend with our Fiber weapon I'm a bit hard pressed to cough up the extra $200 for the WF if there's no weight benefit...

Would also love to know the answer to this.

Dear RED ....

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a 7" HD touchscreen monitor without the hinge for the folks making films and TV shows that ALWAYS mount the on-board on an arm.

As I have said before - the mechanical parts of the hinge are significant in cost and weight. What we all really want is what you did with the old 7" back in the day.

Rant over. Temporarily. I'll be back.

THIS!

Sorry to pile on, but... the hinge/swivel base on the LCDs has caused more issues than it has solved in my world. How about a "naked" panel with a combo hinge/swivel/cable-less connection piece as an option for some situations. As others have noted, in a most other configurations, the hinge is a liability.

Cheers - #19

I would not really call it a "liability" - it just for a different style of camera operation. Sometimes, for fashion and run & gun stuff - it works for some of our customers. But not one single feature film or episodic TV show I have ever encountered uses the hinge on the monitor.

Totally agree...I really do miss my old 7" Red LCD from the R1 days...saw a battle tested one in the store and was tempted, but resolution/brightness/lack of touch capability kept me at bay. Would love what Mark is suggesting...and Blair's additional mounting bracket idea is a good one. Gives everyone the best of both worlds, minus the cableless design of the current DSMC² monitors. SmallHD introduced a similar design for their 502 monitors, and it seems to make a lot of sense, while offering more flexibility in mounting options.

thats why for some shooters, like me, the 7 inch doesnt make sense at all. i want the smallest thing possible on the camera for camera control and i would be using a third party type monitor or evf for actual operating. it has always been an evf or a tv logic for me, but now looking at smallhd, but i know they are having a lot of dead pixel issues plus image doesnt seem to be a great interpretation of what you are filming.

+1 with Lemo on back and 3/8 on the bottom, back and top

Share your perspective. Today I got two new (regular) RED 7" displays because I don't like the Weapon version with yet another thingy to add to the bottom of the monitor to put it any place OTHER than the top of the camera which makes no sense unless you're doing low mode hand held...

Put it up with our 5" touch and a Small HD 702 high bright. My eye kept going to the high bright—not that it was particularly brighter in the room, but because of the inherent contrast ratio, ability to focus, better picture quality overall, etc. The 5" was even brighter, but it was a little harder to focus than the 7" or 702. I found that the 7" doesn't have enough punch or Brightness/contrast. I maxed it out and it still seem dull compared to the 702, and our field monitors (panasonic 17" and sony 17" OLED).

As an "all in one" solution for a camera operator with no AC, the 7" is nice.

But the best of all worlds is to use the 5" or Switchblade for camera control and use the new EVF or 702 for operating.

Jordan you really should check out the 702. A great monitor and the features and software controls are awesome—way better than TVLogic.

The weight difference is negligible . We made the Aluminum back version because we just can't make the carbon ones fast enough to keep up with the demand.
