Hi,

is there any way to shoot with anamorphic lenses on scarlet? On current beta firmware anamorphic mode is limited to 5k only. And 5k is limited to 12fps...

Thanks!

Hi Kamilla

You can 'shoot' anamorphic on scarlet no problem (Using 4k mode), if that's your question. The problem is monitoring. You need an onboard monitor that does a 2x de-squeeze (like a smallHD AC7).

There's no way currently to shoot in 'Anamorphic Mode' on the scarlet. But all that 'Anamorphic mode' really means is the ability to de-squeeze on the RED monitor and EVF

It ends up being 3.55:1, and you crop the sides, so you lose quite a bit of resolution… Although a lot of people seem to agree that it gives the image a more organic-film/less digitally-harsh look (the irony).

That said, you *could* use 1.33x anamorphics lenses inside of 2x (I think Hawk is the only one that has them) or the new Letus AnamorphicX or SLR Magic's Anamorphot or Panasonic's LA7200. Basically you're going to be making sacrifices/compromises.

And, yes, your monitoring path will be jacked.
