I'm cleaning up my place and came across a screener for "Les Miserable." So I popped it into the DVD player, not expecting much.

What an idiot I've been. From the opening shot of the men pulling the ropes in the drydock, I was blown away.

I heard bad reviews from friends about this film. And I was clearly a fool to take reviews w/o ?ing them. In retrospect, they were upset about all the singing. But it's a musical... isn't the more singing the better?

Anyway, I simply LOVE the cinematography. And I have a predilection for long lenses, b/c I LOVE Kurosawa so much. But this is fantastic use of wide lenses. I am just getting blown away as it plays while I type this, LOL!

It's an amazing looking film, no doubt. And the use of wide lenses, WO, for a SHALLOW FEEL at times, is pretty ingenious I thought.

It's a beautiful-looking film, and some of the shots they got were stunning, particularly the use of VFX. Not a film I'd like to see again, but I can't deny it looked and sounded terrific.
