  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A Better Finder Rename for Hyperdeck Shuttle

So now I'm finally confronting the known issue about having to relink clips from the Black Magic Hyperdeck shuttle 2 to the original R3Ds of my Scarlet. I have A Better Finder Rename 9, but the logic of the name of the R3Ds defies the presets of the program. Some say this program can do the job, does any one know how ?
 
I'm also taking a look at Automator but I can't figure how to make it Copy a file name and Paste it in order to replace the Hyperdeck shuttle naming structure. I tried the Record function and it is a joke! I can't seem to make work in a loop. Very surreal watching the cursor move and get it wrong 2 times out of 5.
 
I am also searching in the BM community but there's very little regarding R3Ds. I'm sure Reduser has to be the place where to find an Automator Script or Better Finder Rename solution since not all of us have been able to afford the PIX240 (which is the only ApplePro Res recorder that imports the original clip names of the R3Ds)
 
Brought down the speed of Automator from 1X to .5X and I managed to rename a whole batch with no mistakes. It is so slow I feel like a kid again with my Commodore 64. There's got to be something better...A Better Finder Rename?

How are you kids mounting the HDS to your rig? I wish you could put a cheese plate on both sides and mount it under the camera or something.

If you're limited in scripting knowledge to Automator for this kind of action - Avoid using the mouse and have the keyboard do all the scripting. Elements move onscreen, confounding the mouse but keyboard shortcuts will often win the day.

EXAMPLE:
Window 1 (R3d)
hit enter (open up the filename to get copied)
hit cmd+c (copy name)
hit enter (close the file from being renamed)
switch to next window (Hyperdeck)
hit enter (open up the filename to getting pasted in)
hit cmd+v (paste name)
hit enter (close file from getting renamed)
hit down arrow (ready the next file for rename)
switch to previous window
hit down arrow (ready to copy next filename)

REPEAT as needed.

I also suggest "Name Mangler" - and excellent product for OSX but I'm not sure it would properly handle this situation.
