8K acquisition and FUHD is likely a longer term 'peak' when we consider resolution. I say peak as defined by the practical intersection of future hardware to drive post processes, and consumer content consumption technology.
It's wholly exciting to be able to acquire in 8K, something RED is in the process of making a reality for us. At the same time, image definition and aesthetic continues to be much more than just resolution. In fact this idea of 'aesthetic' not only seems to drive the Pro (largely Arri/RED/Sony) divide, but is also critical in dividing their collective 'market' from the ever-increasing and continually cheaper 'prosumer' counterparts saturating the mid market. And you can't even call it a mid market if all that constitutes 'pro' is resolution, legacy Pro production equipment (lenses,batteries,etc.) compatibility and workflow convenience (ProRes quality etc.) as defining factors. Blackmagic, amongst many others, have already discounted that.
I'm sure we'll see a range of relatively cheaper "prosumer" 8K options in 2016. Hell, we might even see some mainstream smartphones capable of it.
So I'm interested in what others hope for and would like to see in terms of aesthetics and practically in terms of improvements in the upcoming 8K sensor. Faster frame rates are an obvious wish list item - but one I think, for the most part, is a technical (bandwidth/media/capacity/post overhead etc.) constraint moreso than a sensor consideration.
Of course we love the 6K Dragon sensor and will love the same in an 8K package.. but I'm keen to hear what additional aspects of sensor performance and acquisition aesthetics others would love to see?
