Hi all,

According to what I've heard, it looks like we're shooting with 5 Dragons. The DoP seems to be saying that we'll get ProRes 422 files off of the camera.

- Do Dragons give ProRes 422 files directly from the camera? I read the specs and some other posts in this forum, and I'm still unclear. It reads to me like the Dragons don't do that. They shoot in R3D ... which means that we're going to have to transcode to ProRes 422. Is that correct?

- What's the fastest way of getting ProRes proxys? Rocket-X + Red Cine X? The experience I've had in the past (with Epics) was, well, not that impressive, as regards transcoding times/speeds.

Thanks for your time.

You won't get ProRes from a Dragon, unless you have a Samurai/Blade for each one to give you 1080p proxies.

Fastest way of getting the proxys would be an overnight render in RedCineX with a RocketX and a MacPro.

You can get ProRes proxies from *any* HD recorder that does ProRes. I have 3 BMD Hyperdeck Shuttles that do this job perfectly, and for just a few hundred bucks each. However, as I'm moving to Weapon, I don't need them anymore, so will be listing them on eBay/Marketplace. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Thank you all for your prompt responses.
Very useful indeed.

I just did a shoot last week for Porsche where the media had to walk from the event with footage. I used a Pix240 to record ProRes LT files in addition to the .R3D files on the SSDs. Worked great. Make sure whatever recorder you use will trigger start stop from pressing record on the Epic.

Good luck.
