I am in the market for a 2 to 3 computer KVM switch and would like to know if anyone is aware of a 4k compatible KVM switch on the market at this time? I do not currently have a 4k monitor but it would be great to future proof my setup, or at least extend it's life if at all possible.

Thank you.

Nothing yet. We can't even get computer/ GPU manufacturers and monitor makers to agree on the best way to transmit 4K @ > 30Hz. We should see products after HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.3 get rolled out over the coming months. My guess is that we won't see much on this front for at least another year.

Thank you Jeff. That's what I suspected. I owe you one :cheers2:

Careful with KVM's. They are active with their own Power and the ramdac side of the video card has zero resistance. We have seen allot more video cards taken out in the last few years than in the past because the KVM hardware has dropped in price so much. Keep that in mind before you use one.

thank you Eric, do you have any recomendations on a good KVM that isn't going to burn out my video card? That would make for a really crappy day!

Unfortunately no since even the Gefen KVM's have taken out video cards. I would not suggest using one with any editing system especially with mission critical time frames.

Stacy, thank you for the link. Did you buy direct from them? How much?

It is pretty concerning that these are burning out cards, but I'm going nuts plugging and unplugging constantly. I suspect errant current backwashing the video output is frying the cards. Is there any way to test this with a volt meter? I suppose I could pigtail a couple DVI's and get some old fashioned blade switches and have a steam punk editing suite. 24 or so of these should do the trick...

Do those DP1.2 switches support MST or are we limited to 30Hz?

This is what the spec sheet says: All DisplayPort 1.2 resolutions up to 3840×2160 × 30 bpp @ 60 Hz. Supports 17.28 Gbit/s @ a 4-lane link.

Stacey do you happen to use a tablet or control surface? I have a Wacom Intuos and would love to use it with the KVM switch as well. If not one usb is way better than all of them.

That seems like a yes to me. I might have to investigate this.

This looks like the one but a bit expensive. I guess it's worth it to have the UHD resolution and I feel pretty confident that the circuit design with it's emphasis on security and preventing any kind of breach will mitigate any issue with burning out any of my video cards.

I just found a Belkin that is also offering a similar KVM offering but it is about twice as expensive. Model number F1DN102P.

Why not just use a monitor that has multiple inputs?

I highly suggest this.

We've been using the Gefen 2X2 DVIDL for many years and found it a pain with Dual Apple Cinema 30's/24's and a slew of Dells.
Now of course you'd have to find a decent display that will switch smoothly specially in dual displays.
The Dell U2711 is one of my faves but the digital switch is a major pain.
