I am currently in preproduction of a feature slated for shooting early next year. Working on fundraising now and hoping to have the chance to use 3D as another technique for telling the story. A virgin to 3D beyond animation, I am shopping for the right people to add to our crew as well as a rig in order to have this done tastefully and properly. We have quotes from some rental houses but I figured I'd see if any of you can point me in a good direction.

The shoot is pretty ambitious at 10 days of production, primarily interiors. It will be shot for black and white and I'm hoping to make use of both sticks and steadicam.

Any info welcome, thanks!

Hi Sam,

I just finished my firts 3D indie feature (www.filmvc.com.au), called The Scrying. We have all the equipement you need for an enitre shoot. Shoot me an email on johnle(at)filmvc.com.au and I can give you some pointers and point you in the right direction.

Hi Sam,

I recently completed one of the first stereoscopic 3D courses in the country at The Art Institute of Philadelphia and became obsessed with the format. I'm in post-production on my first 3D short "Rings" (Canon 7D's w/ Robert Rig beam splitter), using depth to show the guilt of a man who cheated on his wife. I've also shot live motocross and urban dirt bike riders in 3D with the same rig.

I'm still a novice starting out, just like yourself, but I've been studying many 3D textbooks and learned a good amount on shooting 3D with an indie budget this year. Everything from the technical do's and don'ts to the aesthetics of how depth can manipulate an audiences emotions.

I think I'd be a good addition to your camera department as an intern or PA. Thank you.

(As for anyone else who sees this, I'm looking for 3D internships/apprentice opportunities).

Sincerely,

PS I attached a couple anaglyph stills from my short.

Sorry to derail this thread but wow Jason, you're shooting S3D on 7D's?! How do you sync them?!?! I'd love to know ; )

Thanks for the feedback and contacts! I still need to get in touch with some of you for quotes etc, and will definitely be reaching out to whoever wants to get involved once we start getting closer to production.

As I am learning the 3D feature experience myself, we are planning on doing a series of behind the scenes "how to" videos on making a 3D feature from pre-post production.
More to follow...

Last weekend at the DGA's 'Working with 3D' seminar and panel discussion. Was great to hear from several professionals that work with 3D, as well as see a bit of back and forth regarding stereo shooting vs conversion. I appreciate the time and insight from 21st Century 3D's (& Reduser) Jason Goodman.

Learn more about our project at the campaign we've got going for our first push on funding.
