2023 Red One Owners... Share A Picture Of Your Rig

Hey Folks, so my Red One MX arrived today and looks in great condition, would this suggest it's only had 20 hours use or maybe thats since it been reset or something? I see the firmware needs updating, i couldn't see any visual walkthroughs on how to do that, appreciate this probably isn't something lots of people do these days. Maybe someone has a link to something to walk me through that?

This kit came with 2 x 64gb SSD cards, battery, battery plate, handle bars, shoulder mount, QR plate, SSD Drive, cables, and a top handle. I'm unable to lift heavy stuff as i've had an op on my spine recently but i'll build this slowly over the nexty few weeks whilst i get my strength back.

Cheers

Congratulations on your R1MX Simon.

I have had my hours meter reset or go down to less hours
a few times since I owned it so your hours reading could be
the result of that.

Other than that my camera has generally been solid.

Hope your camera serves you well.

Thanks for the clarification Brian, the guy who sold it said it had been well looked after but i assume it's unlikely its only had 20 hours use! Ive got my first shoot since some surgery coming up in 6 weeks and with some luck i can pair this up with my Epic. Excited to test this sensor out it gets to work.

Part 2 of 2.

Getting setup for a crash steady cam tutorial by Du-All Camera's Steve Gal.
My back has fond memories from that shoot.

Nice rig, where did you find those 15mm Rod for your Redone?

Thanks Vincent.
The rod mount was made by Long Valley Equipment which is run by Douglass Underahl (who used to pop up on Reduser).
They do work nicely.
Unfortunately, I bought his very last unit which was technically
a unfinished prototype version thus the reason its unpainted.

Having a proper look through my MX today and i notice 2 things which maybe someone can advise. I see some sort of residue in the PL mount as i turn it. (see attached photo.) Might not be clear but its sticky and is black, possibly some oil or something. I started cleaning but any ideas what it might be? My plan was to get a Leitax EF Mount as i have a set of modded CY Zeiss in EF i'd like to use, but i'll clean this up anyway.

I then noticed a spec of dried residue on the sensor, (see attached photo) Has anyone had to clean a Red sensor before, any do and don't's aside from the obvious sensor cleaning advice i'd normally look to follow, couldn't see any advice on the internet.

Thanks

There are sensor cleaning kits with single-use swabs available. A swab for an APS-C DSLR should work just fine.

After tinkering on and off for the last couple of years, here is where I've landed with mine:

The battery plate is on rods so that the battery can slide backwards for access to the controls at the rear of the camera. The plate is high enough to clear the power cable. The quadruped baseplate works perfectly with Kessler's Kwik release receiver and keep the camera from tipping on its side, which was a major pet peeve. For handheld, I've been using a steady bag (similar to the CineSaddle). With everything pictured, it's 17lb.

The condition of some of these R1s is quite good.
Simon your camera looks quite new.
The record button is usually one of the 1st parts to show age and
your camera has nary a mark.
The RED logo on the SSD has some scratches but still looks great.
A little wear is good ... shows character. ;)

Those cameras still make a great image.

Thanks Brian, it was showing very little hours but i understand it could have been reset. Like you say though character is important : ) The guy i bought it from was a film lecturer, i think they'd just had it stored away for years and were selling it at a price i couldn't say no to, less then the cost of a mid range dslr. Planning to use this as a B cam with my Epic.
