Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Heaven forbid that it happens, but let's say it did. What happens to Hollywood? Move to Georgia and Florida or New York? All three? What happens to you if you work in the film business?
If you have relatives in another State, you can possibly go live with them. But as for work?
Some say that...
Fujifilm is hitting some home runs this year. Film simulation is not my cup of tea but lots of people will really like that feature for sure. No question.
Some are not approved by the CFA association. Don't skimp on gear, folks.

Given that V-Raptor exists, what is the point of cameras like this? I like Sony BTW. I'm just thinking aloud. And while I'm at it, why do cinema cameras use the term 'full frame' when referring to VistaVision? It's like the manager of the discount store took over at Macy's.
I was thinking about Pentax recently. They are one of the only two DSLR manufacturers which I recommend to people who want DSLRs in 2024. The other being Nikon. (Sony's A mount cameras are used by people who know they want them, and they are actually pretty good). Pentax cameras do have unique...
My problem is that theory and data don't always converge. Phil obviously shares the same sentiment. The guidelines are useful, but guidelines aren't data, and they don't convey understanding.
An example of this principle that actually matters: we still don't know if black holes exist or not. We...
True that. Although f/64 on big sheet film is actually not that extreme if you think about it.
So let's say that we have two lenses. They are identical in every way, except that one is a macro lens, and one is not. Is it possible that the macro lens could have less diffraction at any given...
Have a look here (cued up):
f/22 vs f/5.6 on a Nikkor micro lens. The lens is an SLR lens but the sensor on the camera is APS-C. However, this photographer is photographing negatives at close distances. Does that have an influence on how diffraction works?
The f/22 image is not as soft as I...
Red is not just going to be absorbed into the Nikon blob. Far from it. Red is here to stay. It's just part of a bigger group now. I, for one, welcome our new Japanese overlords.
IMHO, the iPhone is far superior overall. But if Red still made phones, I would switch, even though Android is a POS. However, I have an idea to bring the stereoscope idea to conventional LCDs. The idea came to me while thinking about crime scene photography, as well as journalism, particularly...
I have another solution, for those who don't want a 1:1:1 RGB filter: swap the blue and green filters. Two blue for every green, so it's now 1:1:2. Much better that 1:2:1.
There is no point in 4K on such a large sensor. You get all the deficiencies of a large sensor with a resolution that is...
That is very, very helpful. I have actually asked a few vendors online. One said that the Axis cameras do video only (not true). The others said they didn't know.
The Hydrogen proved that in principle there is easily room for at least one more major mobile platform. Ditch Android, refine the stereo display, and you have something unique. Easy to say, of course.
And don't make it in China, for goodness sakes.
In principle, that would be great. But what's the point of 4K from a 100Mpx sensor? It's natively 11K, so if you are using it for video, you want the full 11K. Of course, I don't know if that is possible at this point.
