    CRT TV Filming Motion Issue

This might help. TL;DR: you might have to set your camera at either 30fps or 29.97fps. A wider shutter angle is probably a good idea, too. Edit: Can you not set a wider shutter angle than 144º on your camera? (6:21)

    Whats next RED 2026?

The M3's light meter was even more difficult to repair, as it was an early attempt at segmented metering in 35mm cameras. It was ingenious but a bit fiddly to repair. It involved four diodes facing each quadrant of the frame. The main issue was that it didn't recognise colour. The M2 had a...

How about stopping down more? Can that work for you?

    Whats next RED 2026?

I suppose that Red will continue to work on the AF algorithm. Other than that, they have a camera for every segment. Maybe they will make a premium 12K-16K camera with a bigger sensor, or they'll find a way to finally win the DR war. Maybe we will see Red sensors in Nikon cameras?

Google has created a free tool to help you learn studio lighting

I was referring to the fact that the future can 'leak' backwards. So it's kind of like premonitions, but not that strong.

Cinematic Wedding filmed on RED Scarlet-W

I really liked that. Very well shot. I prefer slow motion over real time. I think that real time video is too immediate and doesn't have the depth that slow motion does. In fact, photos are the ultimate 'slow motion' because they're static. Having said all that, I'm thinking of doing more slow...

“Please stay tuned for our coming products,” Ikegami concludes.

I have a feeling that Red's sensors are going to make their way into Nikon's Z cameras.

Google has created a free tool to help you learn studio lighting

How odd. Just this morning I was thinking of using those wooden models and small lights to simulate a film set. The whole point of that idea was to actually avoid using a computer and be more 'hands on'. Huh. Ironic.

RED MX shot @ ISO 100

That's why I assert that the Bayer filter is wrong. It should be RB,BG. I haven't yet heard a good reason for the RG,GB pattern, apart from getting a higher ISO rating.

RED MX shot @ ISO 100

AFAIK, the native ISO is 320, but... this post by David Mullen is worth thinking about: https://reduser.net/threads/basic-iso-rating-red-mx.101072/#post-1821844 So, I guess there are two 'correct' answers.

    Happy Easter to all

I joined this site over a decade ago. The reasons I joined are different than the reasons I've stayed. I think that's possibly true for many. Did I join because of the Epic, or because of the Scarlet 3K? Anyway... let's see what the future brings. Happy Easter to all!

    Tariffs....

Red cameras have always been very reasonably priced. The cynical part of me wonders if Red would be even more popular if their prices were much higher. "If you think the Alexa is expensive, wait until you see the price of the V-Raptor." "Ooooh, fan-cy. I will buy one when I win the lottery, but...

    Tariffs....

You are not wrong... But, would a camera like a Phase One truly cost more if it were made in America? The current ones are made in Denmark, I think.

    Tariffs....

Maybe I'm naive, but Nikon could make high end cameras in the USA, thanks to Red. I mean, they could hypothetically make a medium format system. Of course the sensors are Japanese but the cameras will be American made. It can make sense. Look how expensive Phase One cameras are.

Video - why don't movies look like movies anymore?

Some trends are just wanky. They are obviously so and don't need hindsight. Like, underexposure even seeped into commercial photography for a while, which is ridiculous, because people need to see the product. A wedding couple doesn't care about your trend signalling to other photographers -...

60fps + interpolation vs 120fps - which is more sensible?

Thanks for all your comments. I didn't explain properly and I forgot to mention that I want a playback speed of 24-30fps. So I was thinking of shooting at 50/60, conforming to 30, then slowing to 120 or 100. Here is an example of footage I shot last year:

60fps + interpolation vs 120fps - which is more sensible?

I don't shoot a lot of video. But, when I do, I shoot at 120fps (play rehearsals). It would make no sense for me to shoot any other way. Real time video is not the aim, and doesn't look that great anyway. So I'm wondering... is it better, perhaps, to shoot at 50/60fps and just slow it down by a...
