Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
I believe on Facebook it said RED Studios is still RED's so it may be more of a partnership in appearance but owned by Nikon, like having different divisions. I'm sure in the next months we'll have more of an idea how things will be going forward.
While I didn’t expect RED to be acquired by Nikon, I have been on these forums talking about the major potential benefits of the Nikon Z mount for RED and the praises for the cost to performance ratio of the Z9 and now Z8 on top of that for a long time now. Whether I had any influence on this...
I think people are getting carried away with AI at this point. We still don't have fool proof media for long term data storage or even SSDs that don't suffer from "bit rot". Most apps and software barely use more than two CPU cores at a time. GPU acceleration is still limited and buggy...
Iron Glass is your only choice for Cine-rehoused Russian lenses, they now have Zeiss Jena too but with a long lead time. If you just want cine modded with focus gears and PL or other mount, they have those too with several options for oval bokeh, flare line, coating color, etc. I happen to have...
I can only hope something develops to make a universal mount. As an example, the Allstar Cine mount I use on my RED One MX opened up what was normally only Nikon and PL to also include M42, Contax, OCT-19, BNCR, Hasselblad, and Leica R with the corresponding adapter. There was also the IMS mount...
That's what I was thinking and it seems to be talked about like a mirrorless mount of its own but clearly it's not. Perhaps there needs to be a new pro mirrorless mount introduced that can adapt mirrorless mount lenses to it? Otherwise I'm not seeing much reason for LPL over PL.
Hi, everyone, so I was looking at the new Sony 24-50 2.8 G zoom lens and wondered if Sony could make LPL versions of their G lenses but I know a lot has been confused with all the different flange distances with mirrorless mounts so the question is, does LPL serve as a future standard versus PL...
This is the main problem I and many others have been complaining about for a while. As we're in this nebulous time of advancing towards 12K and beyond while many are still holding on to 4K/6K/8K cameras and saying 4K is enough and 8K is the maximum we should ever go, we do have to take a step...
Is that green recorded in the footage? Maybe a gamma setting? Refer to the manual and make sure what normal default settings should be and check for REC709 for the display. Maybe try a round of black shade as well?
Hi, everybody, I was curious, for all those who have been working on feature production in the past couple years, how many have worked on virtual production sets and how often have productions been using them? How have things been in terms of quality and believability of the backgrounds? Any...
It doesn't surprise me that the GFX100 II gets a spotlight, that's a VERY interesting camera option, perhaps the most interesting right now! If Fuji would just do my NAB wish and have a full medium format sensor readout at 8K+ (even if it's external Prores RAW or BRAW) in a firmware update or...
Okay, after looking at some comparison videos, clearly these fall into "Budget Supremes" territory! Granted, I noticed in some shots with the CP3s that, depending on your personal taste, the CP3s can look a bit prettier than the Nanos or the Supremes in some instances. The Nanos have that nice...
Okay, so I guess it's coming back to bite that there's only RF mount versions of RED cameras but on the outside chance they release RF versions at some point, what do you guys think about the newly announced Zeiss Nano Primes?
Zeiss Nano Primes...
Hey, everybody, since DVXUser is down at the moment, I thought I would start a NAB 2024 thread on REDUser since it's just months away! My previous list of anticipated releases for 2023 actually came pretty close to what came out, particularly the mirrorless Blackmagic Cinema 6K camera and the...
Global shutter for the S35 Rhinos should be next on the table and unify the lines, of course, but then I guess it depends on how the Rhinos are doing as I hardly ever hear anything about them. Again, all the updates and now the global shutter makes the V-Raptor a bigger consideration for me as a...
Okay, cool! I was never much of a fan of V-Raptor but adding the global shutter and the recent firmware updates have definitely brought the camera up to speed. I'm not sure if it's going to be used for our next feature but it's certainly a consideration.
Just a little update, GPU acceleration is also a constant issue, went from Quadro RTX 8000 to Geforce 4080 in the hopes of better performance/stability, same problems even with studio drivers. Change Project Settings --> Mercury Software Only, it's currently the only way to go in my book.
These look very pretty and while I can see the point of modifying newer lenses to get a vintage look, I do have to say, the lenses that came to mind in terms of comparison are the Canon FL lenses. I have a nearly full set of FLs but I know I would use them mostly for photography and only a very...
