    Whats next RED 2026?

Yes that would make sense particularly for wildlife filmmaking which is one of the main areas the V-Raptor S35 was meant to address. Nikon is also well known in wildlife photography so perhaps it should be a no brainer. I also wonder if RED might eventually make a more broadcast centric S35...

KOMODO FIRMWARE (Beta) VERSION 1.8.5 beta (7/24/2025) & 1.8.6 Release version

Yes that's correct. Of course it would be best to not get the issue at all but it seems hard to reproduce. Brian Timmons BRITIM/MEDIA

KOMODO FIRMWARE (Beta) VERSION 1.8.5 beta (7/24/2025) & 1.8.6 Release version

Yes- I meant to post that there is a release version. I installed 1.8.6 and it seems fine. I only ever encountered the black screen on boot up once in the 1.8.5 beta across over about 30-40 boots. The workaround I found was to toggle the Display preset function. ProRes is also back to normal...

    Komodo IR pollution?

Curious as to which IRND you’re using. I have one but it’s a 4x4.56 and need to use my matte box for it which would defeat the purpose of a lightweight Vari ND. Brian Timmons BRITIM/MEDIA

What to expect from RED at IBC 2025?

Maybe. MRMC (also part of the Nikon family) just released a lower cost motion control bot so that might be getting a bit of press. There is already a decent amount of integration between RED, Nikon, and MRMC so there may be more examples of that at IBC. I do have a feeling RED might announce...

FS: used Juicebox BP-955 Style Batteries for RED Komodo

I have 8 BP-955 batteries total and am selling them for $30 each + shipping (TBD based on amount of batteries). The batteries operationally work fine but they are 3rd party and do not support RED's battery info protocol so the battery level will not show up in the Komodo interface. They do...

    Angelbird

For all of the negative talk against the old school REDmags they were and still are one of the more durable media I’ve come across. I bought 3 used 1.8 256GB REDmags from a rental house back in 2015 and they already looked like they been to hell and back. In 2025 those mags (knock on wood)...

KOMODO FIRMWARE (Beta) VERSION 1.8.5 beta (7/24/2025) & 1.8.6 Release version

I installed 1.8.5 and been testing the last couple of days. The ProRes issue seems to be resolved. So far I have not seen any record errors I experienced on the earlier betas or corrupted frames that others experienced. After several boot cycles I do think I once experienced the Komodo...

Long shooting days with the Komodo

Definitely ELQ over ProRes more because of the flexibility in Redcode Raw and the data rate. 6K REDcode ELQ is about 200GB/hour. 4K ProRes 422 is about 225GB/hr. You could also consider 5k ELQ which is about 140GB/hr. I only use ProRes for clients that more or less demand it. Data rate tools...

Long shooting days with the Komodo

There’s a few projects and some I’m just working on as a DP or DP/editor. They’re going but some (the better funded) faster than others, Brian Timmons BRITIM/MEDIA

Long shooting days with the Komodo

it varies based on the project and cameras used. If multiple mics are used I record with an external audio recorder like a Zoom F6 (which I own) or when using a sound person whatever they record with. Sometimes with Komodo I record audio in camera which can work ok if only using up to 2 mics...

Long shooting days with the Komodo

I would get at least 2 more 955 batteries and definitely another CFast card preferably 1TB. With 2 cards you could at least offload while you’re filming with the other. Just try to have an SSD to offload to for the speed. Spinning drives may not be fast enough for onset offloads. I have a...

    Komodo Media Write Speed Error

I have not experienced this on the Komodo CFast cards but I have experienced this a few times on my Komodo X CFexpress cards. I actually experienced it earlier today while filming slow motion. Not sure but I think it's one card in particular that does this and I notice it come up more when I'm...

    RED KOMODO X

Even I was wondering if Stephen was getting rid of his KX was to my knowledge he was putting to good work making films. I'm wondering if marketplace policies might consider a change with all of these recent scams. Perhaps only allow posts from established sellers like Roberto Checa (FJS...
