Thanks for your detailed reply, Brian. But I find that very strange, because the button has the "FN" label, implying that it can be used this way. Why is the button even labeled "FN" then? Can it be used for anything else?

I want to set my FN button to magnify the image so I can do it on the fly without digging through the menus. but I cannot find anywhere in the manual or any tutorial online that shows how to do this. Thanks!
