I've never done this kind of this thing but a request has come from the producer to send the red feature I'm in the process of color correcting out as an MFX wrapped JPEG 2000 2k feature for play on a Christie projector.

Any ideas how to do this through FCP? All I see for MFX is XDCAM and P2 in FCP.

It sounds to me like he asking for something called a DCP or Digital Cinema Package. It isn't like a traditional file format that can just play on any system. JPEG2000 was designed for theatrical distribution and it isn't something that is easily (or cheaply) created. There are a number of different options for creating DCP's to play on systems like Christie and Sony etc. The one we have used is a plugin for Compressor called Wraptor but the company that designed the software went bankrupt and stopped updating after Compressor 3.3 (or something like that) - we have a system setup to make it work, but its a mess.

There are other options available but it could cost several thousand dollars to get the software to make it happen. The other thing we ran into was finishing... Finishing and coloring for DVD, BluRay or the web is completely different than finishing for theatrical projectors- we had to do several tests and even after the tests we never got the look we really wanted.

I might be completely off in my response but I hope this helps- MFX wrapped JPEG 2000's might be possible but I haven't heard of them.

Best,

Scott
