  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any Possibility of a Scarlet Update?

DSLR makes a nice still cam and B cam for the ultra shallow DOF look beauty shots to go with a Scarlet.

Exactly... the two will work well together.

Maybe I am spoilt in not having to worry about dropping a few grand on a DSLR while I wait for an s35... safe in the knowledge I can learn, earn some cash and still have an amazing still / b cam when the s35 finally drops.

I guess the main flaming comes from people who can only invest in one or the other?

I would not consider a DSLR as my primary motion camera. Too many compromises. Second choice after Scarlet would be a Sony EX or something similar, since the 2/3" cams are out of reach for me budgetwise. Scarlet is pushing the envelope pretty hard.

Exactly. In fact, I would rather go for the ~$1000 camcorders over the DSLRs. The Panasonics and the Canon HF S are quite good. They have much higher resolution and better colour accuracy. The only thing you give up is interchangable lenses and shallow dof. Neither of which are enough to overcome the drawbacks of the DSLRs for a b-camera.

The EX1/3 are great choices still.

And we're done. Take the DSLR discussion elsewhere.

This thread has already run its course anyway, we know there's a Scarlet update coming next month.
