Dear Stuart, (re: electronic mount)

Since we are going to get moded lenses, will it also work if we declick them? I'm asking because I have no idea how these mechanisms work... if declicking them would effect the situation in any way...

In the lens section I don't seem to get this answered. Thanks

Do your own research, you cant de-click an electronic aperture, its only manual lenses that can be de-clicked. So your question does not make sense.

No need to get upset Jay,

to answer the question as best I can, as jay stated, you can not de-click lenses that only have electronic aperture control (modern Nikon and Canon glass). There are electronic lenses with manual aperture's. The Zeiss ZE lenses (canon mount) have focus confirmation that communicates with the electronic canon mount and having someone like Duclos de-click the lens should not affect the electronic operation of the lens. Otherwise, there are very few lenses that will work with your question.

EDIT: After looking into the ZE Zeiss lenses, there is no mechanical aperture so there are no current electronic lenses that also have full manual control over the lens stops.

If you want to use manual lenses on the red, you do not need an electronic mount, just get a dumb nikon mount which will be way way cheaper.

As always Andrew... thank you.

I would actually like to know more about the ze lenses as it appears some - like the 50mm have electronic iris but manual focus while others have only manual iris.

I think the bottom line on this is that the red ef mount will support iris and focus control of normal ef lenses through the electronic interface like a canon camera or Birger mount does - but just like those it can't adjust anything on a manual lens.

I think this is a little different in nikon mounts because many of the lenses including older manual ones have a pin actuated iris so some nikon cameras and possibly the red nikon electronic mount if it incorporates the mechanical pin drive could control iris on manual lenses.

Stuart, Does the red nikon electronic mount only control the totally electronic lenses or does it have the pin actuator as well?

Btw both mounts can take manual lenses you just have to do iris and focus manually. The canon mount has the advantage of the shortest flange focal distance so you can use nikon, contax/yashica (which the zeiss ze and zfs are based on), pentad, leica, etc. With very inexpensive adapters.
