Hey Guys!

So, I'm going to be the gaffer on a student film set that's shooting 35mm at the end of May. We're shooting on a 3-perf Arri BL4 if that helps. As far as I know we're shooting Kodak Vision 2 500T stock.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if there's anything I need to know in particular about lighting for 35mm. Does it need to be lit differently than 16mm (depending on the scene obviously)? Do I need more light to compensate for the bigger frame size?

I'm just trying to get as much info as possible as I've never worked with 35mm before.

Thanks for the help guys!

Wont be any different than 16mm, I really would reccomend reading the book by Kris Malkiewicz called "Film Lighting" if you have time before your shoot. Its really cheapon amazon.com and will give you better insight for lighting for film in general.

Exactly what he said, with the addition that 35mm has less depth of field...Sooooo....the DP would probably like you more if you gave him more light texture/contrast in the unfocused backgrounds.

+1 to the Kris Malkiewicz book. A must read on my list. I had it signed out of the school library for 4 months and read it 3 times.
